The votes are in and Borussia Dortmund’s Marco Reus has been tabbed as the global cover athlete for FIFA 17.
According to a press release from EA Sports, there were more than 3.1 million votes cast for Reus and the other candidates (James Rodriguez of Real Madrid C.F., Anthony Martial of Manchester United, Eden Hazard of Chelsea FC), but the 27-year-old German star was the victor.
Reus took to Twitter to say thank you to the fans who voted him in:
Just as EA Sports transitioned away from Wayne Rooney to Messi five years ago, the publisher is doing the same with this new brand of young and exciting stars of the pitch.
FIFA 17 releases in North America on September 27 and worldwide on September 29 for the Android, iOS, Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, Xbox One.
