fifa15books | The Oceanic Gamestah Spring Series is in full swing

Gamestah TV, Oceania’s Premier eSports Broadcasting and Commentary provider is starting an Overwatch League of their own.

The league started on September 17th with 3 qualification tournaments to decide the eight teams which would participate in the first division. These eight teams were then seeded in a single group to participate in a Round Robin format over 7 regular season weeks. Gamestah is making use of a before-seen, but still unusual ruleset: each match is a three game series with teams earning 1 point for a map victory, 0.5 points for a map draw, and 0 points for a map loss.

The top four teams at the end of the first stage will qualify for the playoffs on November 13th. The playoff format is a double elimination tournament with best of 3 quarterfinals leading into a best of 5 semifinal and grand final. The 1st and 2nd place teams will receive a minimum cash prize pool of $1000, with additional prizes from other sponsors.

As part of development of talent in the region, the Gamestah League also features a second division, which will be played in a weekly Swiss format bracket. This league does not have a fee to enter and has no requirement to participate week to week. The format remains the same with the regular season culminating in playoffs.

Especially in the light of other leagues, like APEX and APAC Premier, sprouting up, the Gamestah League is a huge step forward for the Oceania scene. If you want to catch any of the division 1 and division 2 action, be sure to check out their stream at https://www.twitch.tv/gamestahtv1. For additional series rules, find the information here. VODS of the event can be found on Gamestah’s Youtube channel
