ESL One Frankfurt 2016 format announced on fifa15books

ESL One Frankfurt will adopt the already implemented format for the upcoming ESL One Manila and will feature a GSL league played ahead of the main event playoffs.

The eight attending teams to ESL One Frankfurt will be split in two groups of four and will play each other in the double elimination group stage one day before the main event, on June 17.

For those unfamiliar with the GSL style group stage format here is an example for better understanding:

Match one: Team A vs. Team B
Match two: Team C vs. Team D
Winners’ match (WM): Winner of match one vs. winner of match two – winner advances to upper bracket
Elimination match (EM): Loser of match one vs. loser of match two – loser drops to lower bracket
Decider match: Loser of WM vs. winner of EM – winner advances to upper bracket and loser drops to lower bracket

The GSL group stage will be played behind closed doors, however all fans coming to ESL One Frankfurt are welcome to join the opening party and watch the games held on June 17 at Sam’s Sportsbar. The doors will open at 10:00 CET in the morning and you will be able to pre-check-in and exchange your ticket for a wristband for the playoffs that will be held on Commerzbank Arena on June 18-19.

The main event will still be played in a single elimination format where the eight world class teams will clash for a share of $250,000 prize pool money. The participating teams are still to be announced.
